Vimeo is a video hosting and sharing platform where users can upload and share high-quality videos either for entertainment purposes or sharing their talent to the world. Users can also do live streaming for their audiences. There are no ads in Vimeo, they gain their revenue through subscription plans and software services they offer to their users. If you don’t want to avail those subscriptions but still want to use Vimeo, then you can subscribe to their basic and free membership. Vimeo is available on multiple platforms including a Vimeo app for mobile devices.

There’s a lot of content that can be found on Vimeo, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that all that content is available for you. Video creators or publishers will sometimes post a video that’s locked to a particular location. For example, you live in New York and a European creator posted a video that is locked to only Europe. You won’t be able to see that video. The only way you can see that video is if you change your location and this can be done with either a vpn or a Vimeo proxy.

Proxies act as a gateway between your device and the internet. Any website you visit would only be able to see the IP address of the proxy server. This means that you can change your location based on the IP address the proxy server is using. If you change your location to Europe, any website you visit would see that you’re from Europe. You will be able to change your location and gain access to all Vimeo videos.

There are also a lot of other helpful uses for proxies. If the country or the network you’re using has banned Vimeo, then you can unblock Vimeo through a proxy and enable you to access it. A creator can also use proxies to utilize automation tools and help upload multiple videos at the same time without getting banned. Proxies also help protect your personal information and give you total anonymity when browsing the internet.

Let’s set up a Vimeo proxy server.

Note: Make sure that the web browser you’re using for Vimeo is set to automatically copy your computer’s proxy settings. Google Chrome automatically does this, so it’s recommended to use it.

  2. Turn on Use setup script

  4. Click Save

If you chose the second option, then:

  1. Turn on Use a proxy server
  2. Input both server address and port number
  3. If you have any addresses you would like to visit without a proxy, enter them here
  4. Turn on Don’t use the proxy server for local addresses check box if you want to access a local server without a proxy

This should then redirect you to MacOS proxy settings. MacOS is more straightforward compared to windows. You only have one option which is to manually configure your proxy server.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Select which proxy IP protocol you want to configure. This depends on which protocols your proxy service provider offers.
  2. Turn on Secure Web Proxy
  3. Input the Proxy Server Address and Port Number
  4. Click OK to save the configurations

Note: You may be prompted for your Mac user password to save your settings.

For Mobile:

To set up a mobile Vimeo proxy server, simply change your phone’s proxy settings. Vimeo will automatically copy your phone’s proxy settings whenever you use it. This is applicable for both Android and IOS. Here’s a thorough guide for Android and another one for iPhone.

Congratulations! You have now finished configuring a Vimeo proxy server. Note that the first time you visit it, there will be a pop up asking for your login credentials.
